Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection. It happens due to Treponema pallidum. A syphilis
test is an important tool for diagnosing and treating this condition. It is used to detect the
presence of the bacterium Treponema pallidum, which causes syphilis. The test involves taking
a sample of blood or other bodily fluid from the patient and testing it for the presence of
antibodies specific to syphilis. If these antibodies are present, it indicates that the patient has
been infected with syphilis and requires treatment.
The WHO Global HIV Progress Report shows that 7.1 million adults contracted syphilis in 2020.
Syphilis screening can be done by taking a blood sample, a fluid sample from a wound, or a
spinal fluid sample.
