Blood tests may predict cardiovascular disease

According to the WHO, it is estimated that 17.9 million people died of CVD in 2016, accounting for 31% of all deaths worldwide. Of those, 85% were due to heart failure and stroke.

Best way to keep a healthy heart is regular check ups. It will help to know the heart condition. Consider blood tests to predict the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Blood tests diagnosing heart disease

1. Lipid profile test:

This test is also known as the cholesterol test. This test measures the level of fat in the blood and indicates whether there is a risk of heart disease. Normal cholesterol must be less than 200 milligrams per decilitre (mg/dL) or 5.2 millimoles per litre (mmol/L). This test also measures cholesterol and triglyceride of high- and low-density lipoproteins and triglyceride. Triglyceride level should be less than 150 mg/dL (1.7 mmol/L).

2. hs CRP test:

This blood test is very important in the diagnosis of heart problems because it may help determine your risk of heart disease before showing any symptoms. A level of hs-CRP greater than 2.0 mg/L is considered indicative of an increased risk of heart disease. Since the increased result also indicates other illnesses, the doctor may ask for additional blood tests to check the heart condition.

3. Natriuretic peptides test:

Natriuretic peptide tests measure the amount of BNP or NT-proBNP in the blood.

4. Troponin (T) Test for Heart Attack

Troponin (or cardiac troponin) is a protein that is present in cardiac muscles. It is not usually found in the blood and is released in the blood when the muscles of the heart are damaged. This test checks the level of troponin in the blood.

5. CBC

Comprehensive blood count results may help to detect complications in the body's pumping organ. CBC is used as a tool to detect congestive heart failure (CHF), as it can diagnose anemia that is known to induce CHF and cause similar symptoms of CHF.
