Blood Tests for Heart Diseases

Certain elements in blood like cholesterol, and triglycerides share hints about heart health. Blood tests determine the risks of coronary artery disease. Blood Tests for Heart Disease are a type of medical test that can be done to help diagnose and monitor heart disease. There are many different types of blood tests for heart disease. Some tests look for certain proteins in the blood that may indicate damage to the heart muscle. Other tests look for things like cholesterol levels and lipids in the blood.

Blood tests to rule out heart diseases

  • Cholesterol: Cholesterol testing is also known as a fat profile test. This test is used to measure blood fat levels. It also indicates a risk of heart attack or another heart disease.
  • Total cholesterol: The total cholesterol level is an important indicator in determining heart disease risk. It is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and other forms of cardiovascular diseases. The total cholesterol level should be within 200 milligrams per decilitre.
  • LDL cholesterol: The LDL cholesterol is a type of fat in the bloodstream that can lead to heart disease. It is often called "bad" cholesterol because it makes it more likely to have a heart attack or stroke. This is because the LDL cholesterol builds up inside the arteries and increases the risk for having plaque buildup, which can cause blockages and blood clots.
  • HDL cholesterol : HDL cholesterol is a good kind of cholesterol. It helps to eliminate excess cholesterol from the body. The HDL molecule also has an antioxidant effect on LDL, or low-density lipoprotein, by removing oxidized LDL from the bloodstream and preventing it from causing damage to blood vessels and other cells in your body. The higher levels of HDL, the lower risk of heart disease becomes. Men should target an HDL cholesterol level of more than 40 mg/dL (1.0 mmol/L). Women should target an HDL of more than 50 mg/dL (1.3 mmol/L).
  • Triglyceride: Triglyceride is associated with diseases of the heart and blood vessels. The main function of triglycerides is to carry fats around the body to store them or use them as energy. Triglycerides also help regulate appetite and provide a sensation of fullness after a meal.
  • Plasma ceramides : Ceramide is a sphingolipid involved in cell signalling. Ceramide synthesis occurs in every tissue. Ceramides accumulate in tissues and blood plasma through metabolic dysfunction, dyslipidemia, and inflammation. The increase in ceramides predicts cardiovascular mortality.
  • Troponin: A troponin test measures the amount of troponin T or troponin I in the blood. These proteins are released when the heart muscle has been damaged, as in the case of a heart attack.
